Course Syllabus

The Course Syllabus is the most important document for your class.  It contains all the relevant information needed to be successful in the course...from instructor contact information, course guidelines and requirements, and grading policies...to specific aspects associated with the course itself...the syllabus is the guiding document you will use to plan your strategy for success!  As the course progresses, you can refer to the syllabus when you have questions or need clarification of specific requirements.  Be sure to download and read this most important document and keep it handy for future reference!

Spot the Differences

  • Every syllabus is different. Instructors add information specific to the course and their individual teaching style.
  • OTC uses a base syllabus template, so a lot of the information in the syllabus in one class will also exist in the syllabus for another class. The template can make each syllabus look the same, but they're not (see above.) Again, it's important to read the syllabus.

The BIG Deals

  • The syllabus area may contain the course grading scale.
  • The syllabus area may contain the instructor's late work restrictions.
  • The syllabus area may contain book and other course resource information.
  • The schedule of assignments, e.g. due dates, may be included in the syllabus.
  • The syllabus contains other important information specific to the course that your instructor feels you need to know to be successful and that you may not otherwise anticipate.
  • It's important to read the syllabus carefully. Do you notice a pattern here? :-)
